This devotional is the twenty-fifth in the series on "Embracing God's Purpose for Your Life." Today's devotion focuses on blessing others.

In yesterday’s devotion we shared on the abundance God provides for us; today we emphasize the need not just walk in God’s blessings but also to be a blessing to others.

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Today’s Verse: “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (1Corinthians 9:8).

Be a Blessing

Do you have a heart to touch the lives of others? It is God’s will for you to be a blessing. The passage shows that he generously provides all you need for a purpose. The reason is that, “you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others” (1 Corinthians 9:8, New Living Translation).

Consider overflow of blessings as opportunities to make a difference in the lives others. Even more, know that as a believer you are a part of one body joined and held together, growing and being built up in love (Ephesians 4:16). As such, there is need to see each person’s well-being as vital. It means touching others just where you are.

Freely give

Jesus sent out his twelve disciples and instructed them “freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8). The instruction is significant today as it was then. Are there ways you can lend support to someone in your church or neighborhood? What about words of encouragement and affirmation to someone who lack self-confidence?

While blessing others in material ways is important and helpful, you can be a blessing in many other ways. Remember, the seeds you sow in others can produce harvest in others people's lives in years to come. So the young person you mentor today, amidst your busy schedule, could be a world changer tomorrow. Today, respond to the call to be more of a blessing to others.

Reflections

Take time to reflect on the passage regarding God's blessings and your response of blessing others. Then, think carefully on the questions below, and write your responses.

  1. Do I truly feel that I am blessed by God?
  2. Have I been so focused on my own life that I have not been responsive to the needs of others?
  3. If yes, what specific steps must I take to be a blessing to people in my sphere of influence?

Prayer

Our Father, we thank you that you have freely given us all we need. Give us the heart to bear each other’s burden and truly bless them. Heavenly Father, you have called us to be impact the lives of others, help to bless them even as you have blessed us. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Declaration

I purpose in my heart to be a blessing those around me.

Today’s Focus

Take five minutes during the day to meditate on 2 Corinthians 9:8. List practical ways you can take to be a blessing to three people in your sphere of influence. Take steps to bless these people in the next thirty days.

Today’s meditation focused on blessing others; to do this from our hearts we must be dependent on God, which will be the emphasis of tomorrow’s devotion.
